About the Teacher

Pema Chöda Rinpoche embarked on his spiritual journey at a tender age, nurtured by the profound teachings of his father and grandfather, Lama Wangda, a devoted follower and heart disciple of Terton Pegyal Lingpa. Even during his school years, Rinpoche’s commitment to spiritual growth was unwavering, inspiring his peers at Jigme Sherubling Higher Secondary School to cultivate their minds alongside him. After graduating in 2019, he deepened his spiritual practice by entering a three-year retreat in Mongar Jurmey, under the esteemed guidance of Lama Konchog Dorje Rinpoche.

During this transformative period, Rinpoche was deeply immersed in the foundational teachings, core practices, and the advanced studies of Dzogchen Threkchod and Thoegal, receiving wisdom from both his root guru, Lama Konchog Dorje Rinpoche, and Lama Wangda. His spiritual journey was further enriched by Dzogchen teachings, empowerments, and transmissions from His Holiness Gochen Trulku Sangnag Rinpoche, as well as Tsalung instructions under the watchful guidance of His Eminence Jigme Namgyal Rinpoche at Tsho Pema in Himachal, India. Alongside completing a comprehensive three-year retreat, Rinpoche dedicated himself to several other retreats, embracing periods of intense practice that ranged from seven months to one and two years.

These retreats, from the shortest to the longest, were foundational in Rinpoche’s spiritual development. Sixteen years ago, amidst these dedicated practices, Rinpoche experienced a profound realization of the nature of mind. This realization has since become the cornerstone of his internal practice, guiding him in his continuous journey of spiritual enlightenment and in his efforts to impart these profound teachings to others.

Pema Choeda Rinpoche has been formally recognized by His Holiness Khenchen Lama Rinpoche, a testament to his esteemed position within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. This recognition is rooted in the prophetic writings of Terchen Dra Ngag Lingpa, the previous incarnation of Khenchen Lama, who foretold that Pema Choeda Rinpoche would be born in Bhutan and emerge as one of the eight eminent treasure holders of his Terma (spiritual treasures). This acknowledgment not only honors Rinpoche’s profound spiritual lineage but also signifies his important role in the preservation and dissemination of these sacred teachings.
