What to do when fear and worry invade the mind? These powerful emotions can easily influence and direct our thoughts, speech and actions. Fear can direct our attention in various ways without us being consciously aware of it. Like background-tasks in computers, it drains our energy and makes life appear dreadful. It fills our being with anxiety, tension and unhealthy stress.
The attitude of worrying is arising out of the fearful mind. Fear is like a general in control of an entire army. It directs hate, anger, doubt, anxiety, stress, dishonesty, worry and a host of other conditions. When fear is active, it can even hijack positive emotions such as gratitude and kindness and use them to establish or expand its dark empire. Being at the base of the mental construct of "self and other" it compares, judges and creates division where it can.
This week I am exploring our options. What can we do when the deceptive state of fear takes control and colors the mind, our emotions and our actions with darkness? Fortunately there are a few very powerful steps we can take to make things better. In this collection of topics I am reflecting on qualities that illuminate darkness, offer space and overcome the energy of fear with wisdom, kindness and compassion.
